Caring as the heart of teaching and learning

img_7330Dear Educators,

Sharing a thought here from IBPYP blog, would love to hear your comments-

“…The pedagogical principles that underpin IB programmes recognize, and indeed emphasize, that learning is a social process. Such learning must be underpinned by an ethic of care in which all those involved as teachers and students share an interest in supporting the learning of each other.

… importance of creating cultures in schools that have at their foundation an ethic of care. However, care is not something that flows in one direction from teacher to student, but should be seen as an aspect of the organizational culture that radiates in all directions.

How does your organisational culture radiate CARE in all directions? Comment

Skype Around the World Day!

DPSSL SKYPE SESSION

We at De Pedagogics hosted the ‘Skype Around the World Day’ on April 17 from 8:30 a.m. noon to 9:00 a.m. IST. The hosts of the event Todd Flory’s class were located in the Kansas, U.S. (central time zone, GMT-5).  The event was for the students of grade 4 from various countries and continents. The students were super excited and put in great effort in collecting data on country’s(India)/region’s(Gurgaon, Haryana) geography, economy, and culture that they then shared with the students in the United States.

DPSSL SKYPE

It was fantastic to see how curious they were to know about each other. Some interesting snippets from the conversation:

India: Do you have king and queen in your country?

US: No we have a President

US: How many children do you have in your school?

India: 3500

US: WHAT!

Those were some moments to cherish for long and great learning experience for the students. Thank you Todd Flory, Jenna Sprague and all their students for having us as their guests.

DPSSL SKYPE AORUND THE WORLD

A special mention for the great efforts put forward by the students of class 4 of Delhi Public school Sushant Lok, Gurgaon. We look forward to hosting many more such events to bring learning closer to the learner and making learning fun, engaging, relevant and challenging.
